Moving Your Small Business Forward During a Pandemic
Success is Rarely Accidental
Even during a pandemic, you and your small business can move forward and grow. How can you, as a small business owner, make that happen? Get a positive mindset, understand that results require action, be persistent, and then take our #BeTheRiver Challenge. Together, they will help you grow your business!
Remember, it’s your business, and it is frankly up to you.
Positive Mindset
“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”
~ Henry Ford
This quote by Henry Ford says it all. Find time each day to get in the right “I’ve got this!” frame of mind before you walk into your office – or over to your kitchen table or your desk in the basement or wherever you are working these days!
How can you get into the right mindset when you’re having a tough moment or an off day? Here are some suggestions I use with my clients. Create your “tool kit” and keep it handy.
- Favorite Quote. What is that one quote that really speaks to you? Write it down, keep it by your desk.
- Favorite Song. Do you have a song that is your go-to when you need a lift? That’s the song I’m talking about. It can even become your Theme Song (read more about Theme Songs in this post). More than one song? Awesome. Keep a playlist.
- Symbol. When I work with clients, we often work on finding their symbol of strength. It can take a while to discover, or it might quickly pop out. Then I ask clients to develop a physical reminder of their strength symbol. For some, it is a butterfly; for others, a rock; for others, a favorite place to be. Your physical reminder can be an item, a picture, or even a poem about your strength symbol. There is no one right answer. Find yours and keep it close by your work area.
- Believe in yourself and your business. This is key. If you don’t believe in yourself and your service/product, how are you going to sell your it to others?
Results Require Action
I think mindset is very important…and so is action. New clients and sales do not magically appear on your horizon. You need to DO something! Using LinkedIn? Asking for referrals from existing clients? Reconnecting with your network? Writing blog posts? Posting more on social media? Making podcasts or videos? Attending virtual networking meetings? Doing paid ads? Whatever it is, you need to act. Results require action.
Persistence
“In the confrontation between the river and the rock, the river always wins…always. Be the River!”
I have that saying on my office wall. Think of the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River. We only see the beauty of the rocky walls of the Grand Canyon because of the persistence of the Colorado River! Every day, all day long, every season, every year, the river continues to flow, wearing away the rock, going along, around, under, over, whatever, but persistently flowing onward.
In business, and in life, #BeTheRiver. Your steps at any given time might be small or they might be large. Either way, persistence is the key. Consistently, day by day, keep moving forward and building your business!
